Hey, my name is Cole and I am the Founder of House of Vimm.
House Of Vimm is Melbourne born and bred (like me!)
I want to tell you the story about how I started this company.
I have never been one of the lucky ones that has great looking skin. It was ok and I got by with investing in lots of make-up. As I hit my 30’s I remember that feeling of impending doom - I am not getting any younger and those lines weren't there before! (Cue - Put an extra layer of foundation on!).
As I was getting older, I realised I needed to do something about my skin.But there wasn't a whole lot of options for women in their 30's.
What I found was anti-ageing starter kits that looked like my Mum's old person pots - like training wheels for wrinkles. And in my mind, I still felt like I was in my 20's. And nothing felt simple. I'm busy. I drink wine. I have better things to do than spend hours in front of the mirror every single day.
And it got me thinking that I cannot be alone here. I bet there are so many women out there that feel the same way.
I was overseas, in a car and my driver took me to a part of town which he said “is not where tourists go, be careful”. And he let me out of the car.
I start walking around and I walk into this shop, filled with every type of soap you could imagine.
Soap on a rope, dinosaur soap, tree soap. You get the idea. I see this Gold Pot on a shelf. I was intrigued so I picked it up, it had no labels on it but I wondered what lathering myself with gold might feel like.
The shopkeeper didn’t speak English so I couldn’t ask her about it. And so I bought it, partly because it smelt amazing, partly because rubbing gold on my skin seemed like a good idea.
And from the first use, I was totally ADDICTED. It became my skincare drug. I actually looked forward to using it, because I loved how my skin looked afterwards.
It felt like I’d stepped out of a spa. And I want to be honest now… I actually became a little vain.
Instantly I looked younger, and my pores were gone!
I couldn’t stop looking at my skin constantly. My pores looked tight, my skin was glowing.
I used that tub of gold until I was scraping the bottom. I would have licked the tub if it meant I could have gotten more on my skin.
And then I freaked out.
It was then I realised that I was addicted to the feeling of having flawless looking skin, feeling beautiful without makeup and owning those lines that started to appear.
I started to get used to compliments. Like going to the pub and people literally thinking I was still in my 20's!
And that was about to end.
There were no labels or markings on the pot. I had no way of finding more of it. I asked myself - “Where and how was I going to get more of it? Like a lifetime supply of it?”
And it got me thinking.
Who wouldn't want a product that takes a minute to apply and provides so many benefits?
So I needed to share this.
Of course, I can’t deny that in the back of my mind, I thought that if I couldn’t sell it, then I could just keep it all for myself.
And so it took me a few years to find, some sweating (mainly due to withdrawals) and House of Vimm was born. (Cue super luxe boxes - yes I have gone over the top!)
